A Life of Warmth and Love

Peggy Mayes Holyfield, who passed peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 86, was a beacon of warmth and kindness to everyone who knew her. Born on September 25, 1938, Peggy dedicated her life to her family and home, creating a sanctuary of love and comfort. Known for her warm heart and strong spirit, Peggy’s life was a testament to the beauty of simple joys — baking homemade cakes and welcoming loved ones into a cozy, inviting home.

Her kitchen was the heart of her world, often filled with the sweet aroma of fresh baking — a symbol of the care she poured into every moment with family and friends. This love extended beyond the kitchen, reflected in every corner of her home and every life she touched.

Cherished Family Bonds and Fond Memories

Peggy’s family was her greatest pride. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Asbury Holyfield, Jr., her parents, and several siblings — a circle of loved ones who meant the world to her. She leaves behind her beloved son Tony Holyfield and daughter-in-law Abby, along with her treasured grandson Eli, who brought immense joy and pride to her later years.

Her dear sister, Reynolda Newman, and numerous nieces and nephews also carry forward Peggy’s legacy of love and kindness. Her life was rich with relationships built on trust, respect, and unshakable devotion. Peggy’s presence was a steadying force, a constant source of comfort and strength for those around her.

Honoring a Beautiful Soul and a Lasting Legacy

The family invites friends to gather on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Moody-Davis Funeral Home for a funeral service celebrating Peggy’s life. The heartfelt thanks of the family go to Dunmore Plantation and Mountain Valley Hospice for their compassionate care during Peggy’s final days — a kindness that eased her journey and comforted her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, supporting others in their moments of need, just as Peggy was supported. Though Peggy’s physical presence has left us, her spirit remains alive in the love she gave so freely and the warmth she created in every life she touched.

Her legacy is one of love, comfort, and an everlasting sense of home — a beautiful reminder that true richness comes from the heart.
